Family Feedback: A Small Break, A Big Step Forward

Part of our “Working Together for Brighter Tomorrows” campaign with The Principle Trust Children’s Charity

As part of our shared commitment to creating brighter tomorrows for children and families affected by crime, Three Nines and The Principle Trust Children’s Charity recently supported a family to spend a quiet few days away at a coastal caravan retreat. The break gave the family the opportunity to rest, reconnect, and make new, happier memories.

Alongside the holiday, Three Nines also provided the family with toys and tickets to see The Wizard of Oz at Christmas, offering extra moments of joy and excitement for the children.

After an incredibly challenging year, the break provided space to simply be – to breathe, rest, and create new memories in safety.

“From what has been the most awful year in my whole forty years of living, some amazing memories were created with my children. It was a much-needed escape in what has been an extremely difficult time, and we were so grateful.”

The family – two children aged 6 and 13, their mum, and a close relative – experienced their first stay in a caravan. They enjoyed peaceful days together exploring the beach (even in the rain!), pumpkin picking, and spending time at a local farm where they met and held animals.

“It was fairly quiet and peaceful, which suited my youngest because she’s autistic. Having my sister with us really helped give me confidence. I feel more confident now to do things on my own with my little one. My big boy enjoyed himself as well, which was great.”

There was even laughter over feeding seagulls – later realised “probably not the right thing to do!” – a moment of lightness during a time that has otherwise felt overwhelming.

This trip was made possible through the generosity of our partners at The Principle Trust Children’s Charity, whose support allowed this family to experience moments of calm, connection, and happiness during an incredibly difficult time.

“Thank you so much for restoring smiles and happiness for us – it will never be forgotten.”

Anne Campbell Gunn, CEO of Three Nines, said: “What may seem like a short break to some can be utterly transformative for families living with the impact of trauma. This time away allowed them not just to rest, but to rediscover moments of joy and connection. Working together with The Principle Trust, we’re helping families feel hope again – in small ways that make a big difference.”

As part of our Working Together for Brighter Tomorrows campaign, this story shows what happens when compassion meets practical support. By working in partnership with The Principle Trust, we’re creating spaces where children and families can begin to heal — gently, safely, and with hope.

We’re committed to helping more families heal and find moments of joy. You can make this possible. Every donation provides vital support for children and families impacted by crime. Donate today and help restore smiles.
