Three Nines Supports Bereaved Family Rebuilding After Tragedy

Three Nines has continued to provide emotional and practical support to a bereaved family rebuilding their lives after experiencing unimaginable trauma.

The family, who came to the United Kingdom seeking safety after fleeing violence in Yemen, suffered a devastating loss following a violent incident in this country.

After attending hospital with their son for treatment to a burn injury, the family stopped to collect food on their journey home. While waiting outside the premises, the young boy was struck by a vehicle during a violent incident involving individuals targeting another person.

The child suffered catastrophic injuries and tragically died in hospital several days later.

Criminal proceedings relating to the incident remain ongoing.

In the aftermath of their loss, the family were left grieving and with very few possessions. Three Nines was able to step in to provide early trauma-informed emotional support alongside practical assistance to help the family begin navigating their recovery.

The family received ongoing emotional wellbeing support focused on helping the children feel safe, heard and cared for following the traumatic loss of their brother.

Alongside this support, Three Nines also provided clothing, toiletries, duvet sets, books and comfort items for the children, helping to restore small moments of stability and normality during an incredibly difficult period.

The family also received support through the Three Nines Christmas Wish Box campaign, with personalised gifts provided to each child.

Several months later, Three Nines supported the youngest child, aged nine, on her birthday with a range of carefully selected gifts including books, creative activities, comfort items, a tablet device and a Three Nines teddy bear.

A video captured during the birthday visit showed the child’s joy and excitement as she opened her presents – a powerful reminder of how meaningful simple acts of kindness can be for children living through grief and trauma.

Three Nines provides early trauma-informed support to children and families affected by trauma and hardship following incidents attended by the emergency services.

Our aim is simple: to transform moments of crisis in children’s lives into pathways for healing, hope and resilience.

Our work focuses on helping children feel safe, heard and cared for while supporting families as they begin to recover from trauma.

Anne Campbell Gunn, Founder of Three Nines, said:

“When families experience sudden trauma and loss, the impact reaches far beyond the immediate incident.

Children can lose their sense of safety, stability and comfort overnight.

At Three Nines, we believe every child deserves compassion, dignity and ongoing support during the most difficult times in their lives.

We are proud to stand alongside families long after the emergency response ends.”
